What is an ETF?
An exchange-traded fund is a fund set up to track an index, a commodity or a particular basket of assets, and it is bought and sold on an exchange like a share. One fund unit represents a small portion of the assets the fund holds. Because the fund trades on the exchange during the day, its price changes throughout the session.
Market price and net asset value
A fund’s market price tends to stay close to its net asset value per unit, which is calculated from the total value of the holdings. Trading by market makers keeps the two values close; however, the gap can widen for thinly traded funds or while the underlying market is closed. The value shown on Lzzo.com is the fund’s traded price on the exchange.
Types of funds
Funds are grouped by what they track: equity index funds, bond funds, funds that follow commodities such as gold or silver, and sector or theme funds. Leveraged and inverse funds are designed to multiply the daily move and can drift noticeably away from their underlying index over longer periods. The index a fund tracks, its management fee and its distribution policy are set out in the issuer’s official documents.
Currency and underlying index
US-listed funds are priced in dollars and those on Borsa Istanbul in Turkish lira. When you choose another currency on the product page, the value is converted at a reference rate, marked as approximate, and the result also reflects the move in the exchange rate. To compare funds with the indices they track, see the indices page.
