What is State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE)?
The State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF, or XLE as it is commonly abbreviated, is a sector fund that invests in the US energy sector. Formerly named Energy Select Sector SPDR, the fund took its current name with the name change in December 2025 and trades on NYSE Arca.
Before expenses, the fund aims to reflect generally the price and yield performance of the Energy Select Sector Index. The index covers two sub-industries: oil, gas and consumable fuels, and energy equipment and services. In practice, this means a basket that includes integrated oil companies, exploration and production companies, refiners, pipeline and storage operators, and drilling service providers. Because the index is weighted by company size, a few integrated energy companies can make up a significant portion of the fund.
XLE's performance is closely tied to crude oil and natural gas prices, OPEC+ production decisions, refining margins, and energy companies' capital spending and shareholder distribution policies. The ETF's market price and net asset value (NAV) can differ from each other during the day. The XLE page on Lzzo.com includes the price in dollars, conversion into Turkish lira, euros and pounds sterling, a historical chart, technical indicators, and the data source along with the time of the update.
