What is DAX 40 Index (DAX 40)?
The DAX is the index made up of large German companies traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange via the Xetra system. It began publication in 1988; in 2021 the number of constituents was expanded, giving it today's DAX 40 structure. The index is now managed by STOXX. Constituents are determined by rules that take trading volume and free float into account.
A notable feature of the DAX is that it is a performance index: dividends paid by companies are counted as if they were reinvested in the index. For this reason, the DAX can produce different results when compared directly with the many indices that measure only price changes. Automotive, chemicals, industrial, insurance and software companies carry marked weight in the index.
Because of Germany's export-driven economic structure, the DAX 40 is sensitive to global trade, Chinese demand, energy costs and European Central Bank policy. The DAX 40 value on Lzzo.com is in points and is based on Yahoo Finance data; prices of contracts linked to the index may differ from this value.
