What is RWE AG (RWE.DE)?
RWE AG is a German energy company headquartered in Essen; its roots go back to the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk, founded in 1898. Its shares trade under the ticker RWE on the Xetra platform of the Frankfurt exchange, and the company is part of Germany's main stock index, the DAX. In recent years the company has been moving away from its coal-weighted past toward renewable energy.
RWE's activities are grouped in several areas. Offshore wind, onshore wind and solar plants make up the renewable generation that is the company's growth focus. The flexible generation area includes gas plants, biomass and energy storage systems; these plants balance the grid when renewable output is low. The supply and trading segment handles trading in electricity, gas and emission allowances. Lignite mining and power plants in Germany are being closed in stages under the coal exit plan.
Those following RWE stock usually watch electricity prices, progress on offshore wind projects, German energy policy and emission allowance prices. On the RWE page at Lzzo.com the price is shown in euros, the currency in which the share trades, and the page also includes a chart and technical indicators.
