Enel S.p.A. is an Italy-based electricity and gas company. Its shares trade on Borsa Italiana (Euronext Milan) under the ticker ENEL.
The group's operations are grouped into three main chains: power generation, distribution networks and retail sales. On the generation side, the renewable portfolio made up of hydroelectric, wind, solar and geothermal plants carries decisive weight; natural gas and other conventional plants are also part of it. On the distribution side, it operates electricity networks in Italy and Spain as well as in some Latin American countries. In Spain it operates through Endesa, in which it holds a majority stake; Brazil, Chile and Colombia are among its important markets. On the retail side, it sells electricity and gas to homes and businesses.
