Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the first decentralized cryptocurrency, designed to enable peer-to-peer transfers of value without the need for a central authority. It was introduced in a technical paper published in 2008 by a person or group using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, and the network began operating in 2009. BTC is both the name of the network and the unit of the native asset circulating on it.

The network runs on a consensus method called proof of work (Proof-of-Work): miners spend computing power to solve puzzles based on a hashing algorithm from the SHA family, and the miner that adds a new block receives the block reward and transaction fees. The block reward is cut in half roughly every four years (halving), and the total supply is capped by protocol rules. Bitcoin's programmability has been deliberately kept narrow; additional layers such as the Lightning Network have been developed for fast and small payments.

The Bitcoin price responds to a wide range of factors, such as institutional demand channels like spot ETFs and corporate treasuries, miner supply that shifts after each halving, global interest rate and liquidity conditions, and the regulatory approaches of different countries.
