Bitcoin Cash

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a cryptocurrency that emerged from a hard fork in 2017 following a disagreement over how the Bitcoin network should scale. The breakaway community emphasized the idea of Bitcoin as peer-to-peer electronic cash and argued for increasing the block size to achieve it. At the moment of the fork, addresses holding Bitcoin were credited with the same amount of BCH.

The network uses proof-of-work mining from the same family as Bitcoin; however, thanks to a larger block limit, it can carry more transactions per block and aims to keep transaction fees low. Its difficulty adjustment algorithm was revised to stabilize block times against sudden changes in mining power. The CashTokens upgrade made it possible to create native tokens and NFTs on the network. BCH is the unit for transaction fees and payments; as with Bitcoin, the total supply is capped and the block reward is periodically halved.

The BCH price is closely tied to how widely it is used for payments, the security dynamics arising from sharing mining power with Bitcoin, halving periods and Bitcoin's broader market moves.
