About world stock exchanges and trading hours

This page shows the regular trading hours of exchanges such as Borsa Istanbul, New York, Frankfurt, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong in local time, in UTC and in Türkiye time. The hours are worked out for today’s date from each exchange’s time zone. Open or closed status appears only for exchanges whose official holiday calendar covers this year and next year; for the others the table gives the regular session.

Daylight saving time

The US and European countries move their clocks forward or back by an hour in spring and autumn. Türkiye keeps the same time zone all year, so in Istanbul time the opening of Wall Street and the European exchanges shifts by an hour with the seasons. Europe turns its clocks back on the last Sunday of October and the US on the first Sunday of November, so the gap changes for a short while in between. The table applies these changes by date on its own.

Lunch breaks on Asian exchanges

The Tokyo and Hong Kong exchanges pause for lunch between their morning and afternoon sessions. They trade overnight and in the morning in Istanbul time; by the time the working day starts in Türkiye, the Tokyo session is usually close to its end. Local holidays also differ from country to country; check the official calendar of each exchange for special session notices.

Crypto and currency markets

Stock exchanges follow set trading hours. Crypto markets trade every day of the week at any hour, and the global currency market is open from Sunday evening to Friday evening. That is why crypto prices keep moving at weekends while stock and index pages show the last session’s close.

Reading session information alongside prices

Before interpreting the daily change of a share or an index, it helps to check whether its exchange is open. On a closed exchange the value shown is the last close, and it does not change until the next session opens. Each exchange’s benchmark index is listed in points on the stock indices page.
