What is Brent Crude Oil (BRENT)?
Brent is a price benchmark for light, low-sulfur crude oil produced from fields in the North Sea. A significant share of the crude oil traded in Europe, Africa and the Middle East is priced against Brent; in Turkey, the Brent oil price is also closely watched when assessing fuel prices. Over time, the benchmark has been expanded to cover several different crude grades.
Brent's main futures contract trades on ICE Futures Europe. The value on Lzzo.com is based on Brent futures (BZ=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance and is expressed in US dollars per barrel. The futures price differs from the spot price of physical cargoes and from pump prices; refining, tax and distribution costs are also added to the pump price.
The main factors affecting the oil price include production decisions by OPEC and its allies, global growth and demand expectations, inventory data, geopolitical developments and the value of the dollar. The price gap between Brent and the US benchmark WTI is also watched separately in the market.
