Heating Oil

Product information
What is Heating Oil (HO)?
Heating oil is a middle distillate with properties similar to diesel, used for home heating especially in the northeastern US. This product group, obtained by distilling crude oil, also includes diesel fuel and jet fuel. In the winter months, demand for home heating in the US rises markedly.
For many years the contract traded on NYMEX under the HO code was based on traditional heating oil; from 2013 it switched to an ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) specification with delivery in New York Harbor. As a result, the contract's price is now also followed as one of the references for the US diesel market and is expressed in US dollars per gallon.
Winter heating demand, distillate inventories, refinery outages and fuel demand from the transport and agriculture sectors are the main factors affecting the price. The value shown on Lzzo.com is based on front-month contract (HO=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance; it differs from retail fuel prices and from tax-inclusive selling prices.
