What is RBOB Gasoline (RB)?
RBOB (Reformulated Blendstock for Oxygenate Blending) refers to a gasoline blend before it is mixed with oxygenated components such as ethanol. A significant share of the gasoline sold at the pump in the US is obtained by blending this stock with ethanol. The RBOB futures contract is the main price reference for the US gasoline market.
The contract trades on NYMEX, part of CME Group, and is based on delivery in the New York Harbor area; its price is expressed in US dollars per gallon. The crude oil price, refinery capacity utilization, gasoline inventories and higher driving demand in the US summer months are the main factors affecting the RBOB price. The price gap between crude oil and refined products is also used to track refining margins.
The value on Lzzo.com is based on front-month RBOB contract (RB=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance. This price is a wholesale futures market level; because taxes, distribution and retail margins are not added, it differs from pump prices in the US and from fuel prices in Turkey.
