What is Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets ETF (VWO)?
The Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets ETF (VWO) is an exchange-traded fund managed by Vanguard that invests in stocks in emerging markets. The fund aims to track the performance of the FTSE Emerging Markets All Cap China A Inclusion Index and trades on NYSE Arca under the ticker VWO. VWO is the exchange-traded share class of the Vanguard Emerging Markets Stock Index Fund.
The index covers large, mid and small-cap companies in emerging countries such as China, India, Taiwan and Brazil and is weighted by company size. As the name suggests, A shares traded in mainland China are also included in the index. The fund is passively managed and, rather than holding every stock in the index one-for-one, builds a broad and diversified basket using a sampling approach.
For emerging market funds, exchange rates, the Chinese economy, commodity prices, country risks and capital controls are watched. The ETF's market price may at times deviate from the fund's net asset value (NAV). The VWO page on Lzzo.com offers the price in dollars, conversion into Turkish lira, euros or pounds sterling, a historical chart, technical indicators, the data source and the time of the last update.
