Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund

The Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund is a spot bitcoin exchange-traded product offered by the US asset management company Fidelity that trades on US exchanges under the ticker FBTC. The product offers an investment linked to the bitcoin price through conventional brokerage accounts.

FBTC holds bitcoin directly and, according to its periodic reports, bases its valuation on a reference price called the Fidelity Bitcoin Reference Rate. The fund's bitcoin is held with Fidelity Digital Asset Services, the Fidelity group's digital asset custody company; this is a structure that handles custody through an in-group entity rather than obtaining it from an independent crypto exchange. The product is not registered under the Investment Company Act, which regulates conventional mutual funds; because it is structured as a trust, investors' rights and protections differ from those of funds subject to that law. The management fee is covered from the fund's assets.

FBTC's price mainly tracks the market price of bitcoin; volatility in the crypto market, digital asset regulation in the US and fund flows into spot bitcoin products are decisive.
