What is Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG)?
The Vanguard Growth ETF is an exchange-traded fund offered by Vanguard that aims to track the performance of the CRSP US Large Cap Growth Index. It trades in the US on NYSE Arca under the ticker VUG.
The index selects, from among large US companies, those with prominent growth characteristics. Criteria such as past and expected earnings growth, sales growth and investment ratios are used to make this distinction. As a result, companies in the technology, communication services and consumer discretionary sectors gain weight in the portfolio, while financial and energy companies have a smaller share than in value-oriented funds. Because companies are weighted by size, a few large technology companies have a marked influence on the fund's results.
