What is Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF (VGK)?

The Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF is the exchange-traded share class of the Vanguard European Stock Index Fund and is bought and sold on NYSE Arca under the ticker VGK. According to the fund's summary prospectus, the aim is to track an index measuring the stock returns of companies in Europe's developed markets.

Using an indexing approach, the fund tracks the FTSE Developed Europe All Cap Index. Weighted by company size, this index consists of the common shares of large, mid and small-cap companies in the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, the Nordic countries and other developed European countries. Through this structure, investors gain access to prominent European sectors such as pharmaceuticals, banking, luxury goods, industrials and energy through a single dollar-denominated fund. Emerging European countries are not included in the index.

VGK's dollar-based return is affected not only by stock prices but also by the movement of the euro, the pound sterling and the Swiss franc against the dollar. The European Central Bank's monetary policy, growth data in the region and energy prices are also among the topics watched. During hours when European exchanges are closed, the price may differ from net asset value (NAV). The VGK page on Lzzo.com features the US dollar price, conversion into Turkish lira, euros and pounds sterling, a historical chart, technical indicators, and the data source with update information.
