State Street Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF

XLB, which represents the US materials sector, from chemical companies to mining producers, through a single ticker, is managed by State Street. The fund's name changed in December 2025 from Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund to State Street Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF; its shares trade on NYSE Arca.

According to the issuer, the fund targets results that, before expenses, generally correspond to the price and yield performance of the Materials Select Sector Index. The index represents the materials sector of S&P's large-company US index and covers five areas: chemicals, metals and mining, paper and forest products, containers and packaging, and construction materials. In this way, the basket brings together industrial gas producers, specialty chemical companies, copper and gold miners, steelmakers, packaging companies, and cement and aggregates producers. Because the number of companies in the sector is limited, a few large companies can carry notable weight in the fund.

Materials stocks are sensitive to the economic cycle; those following XLB track commodity prices, China's demand outlook, construction and infrastructure spending in the US, energy costs and the direction of the dollar. The fund's market price can diverge slightly from its net asset value (NAV).
