Product information
What is EURO STOXX 50 Index (Euro Stoxx 50)?
The EURO STOXX 50 is a stock index made up of large companies that are prominent in their sectors and listed on exchanges in eurozone countries. Calculated by STOXX, the index began publication in 1998, in other words shortly before the single currency, the euro, came into use.
Constituents are weighted by their free-float shares, and companies from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain hold a large place in the index. Because it covers only eurozone companies, Europe's non-euro markets such as the UK and Switzerland are not included. This feature sets it apart from broader European indices.
European Central Bank interest rate decisions, eurozone growth and inflation data, and global risk appetite affect the index's path. Futures and options contracts based on the index trade on Eurex. On Lzzo.com, the Euro Stoxx 50 is shown in points using Yahoo Finance data; contract prices may differ from this level.
