What is FTSE MIB Index (FTSEMIB.MI)?
The FTSE MIB is a stock index made up of liquid, large Italian companies traded on Borsa Italiana in Milan. The index is calculated jointly by FTSE Russell and Borsa Italiana. Borsa Italiana is now part of the Euronext group. The index is designed to sum up the liquid part of the Italian stock market in a single point value and to serve as the underlying for derivative products.
Banks, energy and utility companies carry marked weight on the Italian exchange; automotive and luxury goods companies are also in the index. Because of the share of banking stocks, the FTSE MIB is known as an index sensitive to interest rate expectations and Italian government bond yields. Constituents are weighted by their free-float shares.
European Central Bank policy, developments concerning Italy's public debt and eurozone growth data stand out when following the index. On Lzzo.com, the FTSE MIB value is shown in points using Yahoo Finance data; futures contracts linked to the index are priced separately.
