BIST Hizmetler Endeksi

The BIST Services (BIST Hizmetler) index is a main sector gauge tracked on Borsa Istanbul under the code XUHIZ that brings together companies providing services rather than manufacturing goods. Shares of electricity, gas and water utilities, telecommunications, transport, tourism, wholesale and retail trade companies and sports clubs are grouped under this umbrella.

The index is calculated in Turkish lira using the capitalization-weighted price index method and is published in points. Because constituent weights depend on the amount of free-float shares, price changes in airline, retail or communications companies with a high free float can have a relatively greater effect on the index. Sub-sectors such as transport, trade and tourism are also tracked through their own indices.

Investors refer to XUHIZ to see, in aggregate, how themes such as domestic demand, consumer spending, the tourism season and energy pricing feed through to the stock market.
