BIST Mali Endeksi

Calculated under the code XUMAL, the BIST Financials (BIST Mali) index is one of Borsa Istanbul's main sector indices and gathers shares classified as financial institutions into a single gauge. Its scope covers banks, insurance and pension companies, leasing and factoring firms, holding and investment companies, real estate investment trusts (REITs), brokerages and securities investment trusts.

According to Borsa Istanbul's index definition, XUMAL is a capitalization-weighted price index; its value is calculated in Turkish lira and published in points. Because weighting is based on the total value of free-float shares, moves in companies with a large free float are reflected more clearly in the index level.

Market participants use this gauge as a yardstick to compare the general trend in financial stocks with industrial or services companies; interest rate decisions, lending conditions and banking regulation are among the topics the sector watches.
