What is Bagfas Fertilizer (BAGFS)?
Bandirma Gubre Fabrikalari A.S. is a chemical fertiliser producer founded in 1969 by local farmers and business people. Its integrated facilities are on the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara, between Bandirma and Erdek, while the head office moved to Istanbul in 1978. The company went public after its founding, and its shares trade on Borsa Istanbul under the ticker BAGFS.
Bagfas's activities are classified into acid production plants, fertiliser production plants and auxiliary facilities. The product list includes ammonium sulphate, DAP (diammonium phosphate), NP and zinc-enriched NP fertilisers, NPK fertilisers in various formulas, urea, ammonium nitrate and calcium ammonium nitrate; part of production is also aimed at exports. The company has commissioned a new facility for the production of granular stabilised ammonium nitrate and granular calcium ammonium nitrate. Cargo handling services, including for dangerous goods, are provided at the facilities' own pier, and the articles of association also allow generation to meet its own electricity and heat needs.
For fertiliser producers, the main issues investors watch are the prices of inputs such as ammonia, phosphoric acid and sulphur, natural gas costs, seasonality tied to planting periods, agricultural support policies and farmers' purchasing power.
