Kartonsan Coated Board

Kartonsan Karton Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. is an industrial company founded in 1967 and known for domestic production of coated board. It is headquartered in Sisli, Istanbul, while production takes place at its factory in Kocaeli. KARTN shares have traded on the exchange since 1986.

The company began producing coated folding boxboard in 1970, and its second production line was commissioned in 1986. Sold under brands such as Normprint, Exprint and Luxtriplex, its boards are a basic raw material for printers and packaging firms that produce folding carton packaging. The power plant at the factory, which can run on natural gas and diesel, generates electricity and steam; since 2003 the company has sold surplus electricity to the grid. Wastewater treatment facilities and an integrated management system covering quality, environment and occupational safety are also part of the production infrastructure. The company also publishes sales price lists and product specifications on its website.

For board producers, pulp and waste paper prices, natural gas and electricity costs, competition from imported board, the course of packaging demand and the capacity utilization rate are the variables investors track. The company's own energy generation is also taken into account when assessing the impact of energy price fluctuations.
