What is ICBC Turkey Bank (ICBCT)?
ICBC Turkey Bank A.S. is a deposit bank headquartered in Maslak, Istanbul, whose shares trade on Borsa Istanbul under the ticker ICBCT. The bank traces its roots to Tekstilbank: Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) completed the acquisition of a majority stake in 2015, and the name was changed to ICBC Turkey Bank at the end of the same year. ICBCT stock is therefore followed as the publicly traded presence of a Chinese-owned bank in Turkey.
On the retail side, the bank offers personal, mortgage and auto loans, credit and debit cards, and time and demand deposit products. UnionPay cards and CHINEX, a direct money transfer service to China, are aimed at commercial and personal flows between the two countries. Corporate clients are provided with working capital, investment and export financing, non-cash loans and POS solutions that accept WeChat Pay; brokerage for equities, VIOP (Borsa Istanbul's futures and options market), government bonds and eurobonds is also among its services.
In banking stocks, investors closely watch changes in the policy rate, deposit costs, loan growth, asset quality and capital adequacy. For ICBCT specifically, the parent's strategy for Turkey and the course of trade between Turkey and China are also part of the assessment.
