What is TrueUSD (TUSD)?
TrueUSD is a fiat-backed stablecoin launched in 2018 that aims for each token to correspond to one US dollar. Independent attestation reports and on-chain proof-of-reserves practices are used to show that the reserves cover the token supply. Responsibility for issuance and the brand changed hands after the early years; TUSD is now managed by a group of companies different from its original developer. For transparency, the project discloses reserve information at regular intervals.
TUSD exists as a token on networks such as Ethereum, TRON, BNB Chain and Avalanche. The stablecoin can be used in trading pairs, payments and decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. For fiat-backed stablecoins, tracking the dollar is a design goal; the composition of the reserves, custody conditions and the issuer's redemption capacity are decisive in sustaining this goal.
TrueUSD has also been in the news over legal disputes concerning the management of part of its reserves; it is therefore important to follow the current reserve reports. The value shown for TUSD on Lzzo.com is a US dollar reference derived from the Binance USDT pair using the Coinbase USDT/USD observation.
