What is Ripple USD (RLUSD)?
Ripple USD, or RLUSD for short, is a stablecoin designed to track the value of the US dollar that was launched in December 2024. The token is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, which is affiliated with Ripple, under a trust license supervised by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). DefiLlama classifies RLUSD as a fiat-backed stablecoin.
According to Ripple, the reserves consist of US dollar deposits, short-term US Treasury bills and cash equivalents, and are verified at regular intervals by an independent accounting firm. RLUSD is issued natively on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. Maintaining the dollar peg is a design goal; the issuer's redemption terms and reserve reports need to be followed to understand how far the token meets this goal.
On Lzzo.com, the RLUSD price is shown by converting the value from RLUSD/USDT trades on Binance into US dollars using Coinbase's USDT/USD rate; small differences between the two stablecoins can therefore be reflected on screen.
