What is Pirate Chain (ARRR)?
Pirate Chain is a cryptocurrency built on Komodo technology in 2018 that makes privacy mandatory rather than optional. Transparent addresses cannot be used on the network of the coin, known by the symbol ARRR; all transfers go through shielded addresses based on zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs). As a result, sender, recipient and amount information is not visible on the chain.
Drawing on Zcash's Sapling technology, Pirate Chain uses proof of work with the Equihash algorithm for mining. For a long time the network also benefited from the dPoW mechanism of the Komodo ecosystem; in this setup, the chain's state was periodically anchored to another proof-of-work network, creating an additional layer of protection against double-spend attacks. The ecosystem includes privacy-focused desktop and mobile wallets.
ARRR is the native coin of its own blockchain, and access to it may be limited on some exchanges because of its mandatory privacy design. On Lzzo.com, the Pirate Chain price is shown using DefiLlama's US dollar reference data; this data is for information.
