What is Monero (XMR)?
Monero is a cryptocurrency launched in April 2014 on the basis of the CryptoNote protocol that treats privacy as the network's default behavior rather than as an optional add-on. Known by the symbol XMR, the coin runs on its own blockchain and is maintained not by a company but by an open-source community of volunteer developers.
On the network, ring signatures conceal the sender, one-time stealth addresses protect the recipient, and the amount sent is encrypted using a method called RingCT. As a result, an outside observer cannot read from chain data which wallet sent how much to whom. Mining uses RandomX, a proof-of-work algorithm in use since 2019 and designed to suit ordinary processors; the block reward continues through a small, ongoing issuance known as tail emission.
Its strong privacy design has led to regulatory pressure in some countries and to delistings on various exchanges, which can affect accessibility. The Monero price shown on Lzzo.com is based on DefiLlama's US dollar reference data and is for information only.
