What is Zcash (ZEC)?
Zcash is a cryptocurrency whose mainnet launched in October 2016 and which uses zero-knowledge proof technology (zk-SNARKs) for private transactions. It is derived from the Bitcoin code base; features such as a fixed maximum supply and the periodic halving of mining rewards are similar to Bitcoin.
In Zcash, users can choose between transparent addresses and shielded addresses. In shielded transactions, the sender, recipient and amount are hidden, while the validity of the transaction is verified with a zero-knowledge proof. Development of the protocol is supported by organizations such as the Electric Coin Company and the Zcash Foundation. The network uses a proof-of-work mechanism based on the Equihash algorithm. The shielded transaction pools have been updated over time with more efficient proof systems.
Privacy-focused cryptocurrencies may face delistings on some exchanges or regulatory restrictions. On Lzzo.com, the Zcash price is shown by converting the Binance ZEC/USDT pair to US dollars using Coinbase's USDT/USD observation; it is a reference for information only.
