What is Nervos Network (CKB)?
Nervos Network is an open-source blockchain network built on a layered architecture. Its base layer is called the Common Knowledge Base (CKB) and moved to mainnet in November 2019. CKB uses proof-of-work mining with an original algorithm called Eaglesong; security and decentralization are kept at this layer, while scaling is left to the upper layers.
The network uses a cell model that generalizes Bitcoin's unspent output approach. Smart contracts run on CKB-VM, which is based on the RISC-V instruction set; this design gives developers flexibility in adding different cryptographic building blocks to the chain. The ecosystem includes work such as the RGB++ approach for interacting with Bitcoin assets and the payment-channel-based Fiber Network.
The CKB token is used not only to pay fees but also to represent storage space on the chain: data held in a cell requires a corresponding amount of CKB to be locked. The Nervos DAO mechanism, which lets long-term holders receive a share of secondary issuance, is also part of this model. The price on Lzzo.com is the Binance CKB/USDT pair converted to US dollars at Coinbase Exchange's USDT/USD rate and is provided for information.
