Mina Protocol

Mina Protocol is a layer-one blockchain developed under its earlier name, Coda Protocol, whose mainnet launched in March 2021. The project's distinguishing feature is that it compresses the chain's entire history into a single small proof using recursive zero-knowledge proofs (recursive zk-SNARKs). As a result, the amount of data needed for verification does not grow as the chain grows, and full verification can be done even on devices with limited resources.

Smart contracts on Mina are called zkApps. In these applications, computation happens on the user's side and only a proof showing that the computation was performed correctly is sent to the chain; developers can write these applications with a TypeScript-based development library. The network runs on a proof-of-stake consensus adapted from the Ouroboros family, and the ecosystem is supported by the Mina Foundation.
