What is Kaspa (KAS)?
Kaspa is a layer-one network secured by proof of work and launched in 2021 without a premine or presale. KAS is the network's native coin. The project aims to reach far higher transaction capacity while preserving Bitcoin's mining-based security model.
In classic blockchains, only one of the blocks produced at the same time is added to the chain, and the others are left orphaned. Kaspa instead links blocks to one another within a directed acyclic graph (blockDAG) and orders parallel blocks with the GHOSTDAG protocol, including all of them in the ledger; this allows block production speed to be raised without compromising security. Miners produce blocks with the kHeavyHash algorithm and earn KAS in return; rewards decrease regularly on a predetermined schedule. KAS is also used to pay transaction fees.
Mining economics and hardware supply, exchange access, the timeline for planned upgrades such as smart contract support, and the general trend of the crypto market may play a role in the KAS price. On the Kaspa page, Lzzo.com relies on DefiLlama's dollar-based reference for price data; the history seen on the chart also comes from this source's historical data.
