What is USD.AI (CHIP)?
USD.AI is a decentralized finance protocol that accepts graphics processing units (GPUs) used in AI infrastructure as collateral and lends to companies that operate this hardware. According to the documentation, the protocol's dollar token USDai is fully backed by PYUSD; yield is passed to the staked version sUSDai from the interest on GPU-backed loans. CHIP is the protocol's governance and utility token; according to its CoinGecko listing, it has contracts on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base and Solana.
CHIP holders vote on protocol rules such as which assets are accepted as collateral, how loans are priced and key risk parameters. Staking CHIP yields sCHIP; withdrawals are subject to waiting periods set by governance. According to the documentation, staked CHIP acts as a backstop: in shortfall situations where credit losses exceed reserves or price oracles malfunction, it can be used to cover the gap. This design makes stakers bear the protocol's credit risk directly.
The course of CHIP may be affected by the protocol's loan volume and interest income, changes in the second-hand value of GPUs, demand for AI infrastructure, borrowers' repayment performance and token unlocks. On Lzzo.com, the CHIP price is taken from the CHIP/USDT pair on Binance and shown after conversion into dollars at Coinbase Exchange's USDT/USD rate; the chart uses the same series.
