What is Bitcoin SV (BSV)?
Bitcoin SV (BSV) is a proof-of-work blockchain that emerged from a hard fork on the Bitcoin Cash network in 2018. The abbreviation SV stands for “Satoshi Vision” and reflects the project's aim of returning to, and keeping fixed, the protocol rules it argues were envisaged in Bitcoin's original design. The ecosystem's development is supported by an organization called the BSV Association.
BSV's distinctive approach is not to impose a strict upper limit on block size; the aim is to carry very high transaction volumes and large data entries directly on the main chain. For this reason, the network is positioned as a ledger for data storage, document verification and enterprise applications as well as payments; a new node software called Teranode has also been developed for its scaling goal. BSV is used to pay transaction fees on the network, and miners receive the block reward along with these fees.
The BSV price can be affected by factors such as security debates linked to the network's low mining power, listing decisions by some exchanges, the extent to which enterprise usage announcements materialize and general trends in the crypto market. Lzzo.com publishes DefiLlama's US dollar reference price for Bitcoin SV; the chart is also based on this source's historical data.
