Product information
What is Live Cattle Futures (LE)?
The live cattle futures contract tracks the price of cattle in the US that have been brought to slaughter weight in feedlots. The contract trades on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, part of CME Group, and is quoted in cents per pound. It is the main futures price reference for the US beef market.
The main factors affecting cattle prices include herd size, feeding costs, feed prices such as corn in particular, pasture conditions and drought, slaughterhouse capacity and consumer demand. Because changes in herd size follow a cycle spread over years, supply-side effects can be long-lasting. A separate contract (feeder cattle) also trades for young animals to be placed on feed.
The live cattle futures value shown on Lzzo.com is based on front-month contract (LE=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance and is presented after conversion into US dollars. This price relates to the US livestock market; it does not reflect red meat or feeder animal prices in Turkey.
