Product information
What is Corn Futures (ZC)?
Corn is a grain used in animal feed, ethanol production, starch, glucose syrup and food products. The US, Brazil, Argentina and Ukraine are among the prominent countries in global production. Because of its weight in the feed sector, the corn price also indirectly affects the production costs of meat, milk and eggs.
The corn value shown on Lzzo.com is based on the corn futures contract traded on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and comes from front-month contract (ZC=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance. The contract is quoted in cents per bushel; the site converts this quote into US dollars. The futures price differs from the selling price of physical corn in local markets.
US planted area and yield estimates, summer weather, US Department of Agriculture reports, the South American harvest, ethanol demand and export flows are the main drivers of the corn price. Because ethanol production in the US relies heavily on corn, there is also a link between energy prices and the corn price.
