What is Union Pacific Corporation (UNP)?
Union Pacific Corporation is a railroad transportation company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker UNP, and it is a member of the S&P 500 index. The Union Pacific Railroad, the company's operating subsidiary, traces its history to the Pacific Railway Act passed in 1862.
Its rail network covers the western United States and links Pacific coast ports, the Gulf Coast corridor and the border crossings with Mexico to the country's industrial centers. The freight it carries falls into three main groups: bulk goods such as grain, coal, fertilizer and renewable fuels; industrial products such as chemicals, plastics, metals and construction materials; and a premium group that includes container and automobile shipments. This variety exposes the company to volume swings in several sectors at once.
When following Union Pacific stock, container shipping volumes, industrial output, agricultural shipments and the regulatory agenda for the rail sector are taken into account. On the UNP page at Lzzo.com the price is shown in US dollars, and a historical price chart and technical indicators are available on the same page.
