Romanian Leu / Turkish Lira

RON/TRY shows the value of Romania's currency, the leu, in Turkish lira. The leu is managed by the National Bank of Romania (Banca Națională a României, BNR). The RON code came into use with a currency reform carried out in 2005. The word leu means lion in Romanian; the name goes back to Dutch coins bearing a lion figure that circulated historically.

Romania has been a member of the European Union since 2007; although it aims to adopt the euro, it has not yet adopted the single currency. Under a managed floating exchange rate regime, the BNR seeks to limit the leu's fluctuations, especially against the euro. As a result, the leu often follows a relatively stable path against the euro, and RON/TRY can show a trend similar to EUR/TRY.
