What is Euro / Japanese Yen (EUR/JPY)?
EUR/JPY is the cross rate showing how many Japanese yen one euro is worth. A cross rate expresses the ratio between two currencies without involving the US dollar. The euro is managed by the European Central Bank and the yen by the Bank of Japan. The pair is heavily traded during the European and Asian sessions.
The pair reflects interest rate and growth differences between Europe and Japan. Japan's long period of very low interest rates led to the yen being used as a funding currency in interest rate differential trades, which makes EUR/JPY sensitive to changes in risk appetite. When uncertainty rises in global markets, the yen can attract demand and the pair can fall. On the euro side, ECB decisions, energy prices and eurozone data are influential.
Sales by Japanese automotive and electronics companies in Europe and Europe's exports to Japan are other factors that affect the pair through commercial currency flows. On Lzzo.com, the EUR/JPY value is a cross reference rate calculated via the US dollar from market exchange rates; it is not a bank buy/sell price.
