What is Zilliqa (ZIL)?
Zilliqa is a layer-one blockchain whose mainnet launched in 2019 and which aims to increase transaction capacity by splitting the network into shards that run in parallel. The project grew out of academic work at the National University of Singapore and was among the projects that applied the sharding approach on a public network.
The network developed a programming language called Scilla, designed with a focus on security for smart contracts; compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine was added later. The Zilliqa team is running a comprehensive upgrade program that renews the network's architecture. ZIL is the native token used for transaction fees and staking; CoinGecko's listing also includes a bridged version on BNB Chain. With its academic approach to balancing network security and transaction speed, the project is often cited as an example in discussions on blockchain scaling. Gaming and NFT applications have also been built within the ecosystem with the help of developer tools and wallet support.
On Lzzo.com, the Zilliqa price is shown by converting the Binance ZIL/USDT pair to US dollars using Coinbase Exchange's USDT/USD observation; it is a reference for information only.
