What is Qtum?
Qtum is an open-source blockchain that brings together Bitcoin's unspent transaction output (UTXO) model and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Its mainnet launched in September 2017, and the project is supported by the Singapore-based Qtum Foundation. An intermediate layer called the Account Abstraction Layer, which links the two approaches, allows UTXO-based transactions to interact with smart contracts.
The network is secured by proof of stake; users can take part in block production by holding QTUM balances in their wallets or by delegating to a super staker. Qtum also has a mechanism called the Decentralized Governance Protocol (DGP), which allows some network settings, such as block size and gas parameters, to be updated through on-chain governance without requiring a fork.
QTUM is the network's native coin and is used for transaction fees, smart contract execution costs and staking. The Qtum price on Lzzo.com is taken from the Binance QTUM/USDT pair, converted to US dollars using the Coinbase Exchange USDT/USD rate and provided for information.
