Polygon Ecosystem Token

Polygon Ecosystem Token (POL) is the native token of the Polygon networks and replaced the earlier MATIC token through a migration that began in September 2024. POL is used to pay transaction fees on the Ethereum-compatible Polygon PoS network and for validator staking. The token is issued on Ethereum and circulates as the native asset on the Polygon PoS network.

Polygon originally emerged as a scaling solution for Ethereum and over the years turned toward zero-knowledge proof technologies. The project's aggregation layer, called AggLayer, aims to connect the liquidity and users of different chains in a shared framework. The Polygon PoS network has recently received performance upgrades aimed at use cases such as payments and real-world assets.
