Livepeer

Livepeer is a protocol that distributes the job of converting livestreams and recorded video into different resolutions and formats (transcoding) across a decentralized network. LPT is Livepeer's token, issued under Ethereum's token standard; the protocol's main contracts, however, have been moved to the Arbitrum network to reduce transaction costs.

Nodes that perform work on the network are called orchestrators. Orchestrators stake LPT and, depending on the size of their stake, gain the chance to receive work and earn rewards; token holders who do not run their own node can delegate their LPT to an orchestrator. Fees paid by video broadcasters are denominated in ETH, while the protocol regularly mints new LPT to reward participants. If the staking rate is below the target, the issuance rate rises; if it is above, it falls. The network has recently also opened up to AI inference tasks such as video generation and processing.

The course of LPT may vary with the video and AI workload coming to the network, the size of fees paid, the inflation rate, the dilution risk for unstaked tokens and competition with centralized video infrastructure providers.
