Linea

Linea is an EVM-equivalent (zkEVM) Ethereum layer-two network developed by Consensys that runs on zero-knowledge proofs. Transactions are executed on Linea, while their validity is verified on the Ethereum mainnet through cryptographic proofs. LINEA is the network's token, distributed in 2025, and exists both on the Linea network and on Ethereum.

Linea's token model is unusual in some respects. Transaction fees on the network are paid not in LINEA but in ETH. The design includes a dual burn mechanism under which part of the net fees generated on the network is used to burn ETH, and the remainder to buy LINEA from the market and burn it. The bulk of the token supply is allocated to an ecosystem fund; the use of this fund is decided by the Linea Consortium, which includes organizations from the Ethereum ecosystem, and resources are directed to developers, public-goods projects and research.

The LINEA price can be shaped by factors such as transaction volume on the network and the resulting burn amount, the unlock and distribution schedule, usage of applications moving to Linea and competition with other layer-two networks.
