What is IOTA?
IOTA is an open-source distributed ledger network developed by the non-profit IOTA Foundation; IOTA is also the name of the network's native crypto asset. In its early years, the project became known for the idea of fee-free data and value transfer between Internet of Things (IoT) devices and for its directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure called the Tangle, made up of interlinked transactions rather than blocks. Today it positions itself as public digital infrastructure for areas such as trade, supply chains and digital identity.
With the Rebased upgrade introduced in 2025, the network became an object-based layer-one network built on the Move programming language. In this structure, transactions are confirmed by validators selected with staked IOTA; token holders can delegate their assets to validators to take part in network security and earn staking rewards. The IOTA token is used to pay transaction fees; applications can choose to cover their users' fees themselves. A separate IOTA EVM environment is also available for Ethereum-compatible smart contracts.
The IOTA price is sensitive to factors such as actual usage and institutional integrations on the network, circulating supply that changes with staking rewards, competition with rival smart contract networks and regulation of crypto assets. On the IOTA page on Lzzo.com, the price is taken from the IOTA/USDT pair on Binance and converted into US dollars at Coinbase Exchange's USDT/USD rate; the chart shows this dollar-based series.
