Product information
What is Helium (HNT)?
Helium is a decentralized wireless network made up of hotspot devices set up by individuals and businesses, and is one of the recognized examples of the physical infrastructure network (DePIN) category. The network provides low-power LoRaWAN coverage for Internet of Things devices and mobile data service for phones. Helium started on its own blockchain and moved to Solana in 2023; HNT is therefore a token that runs on Solana today.
The network's economy rests on a burn-and-mint balance: parties using the coverage pay data fees with Data Credits, which are obtained by burning HNT and kept at a fixed value. Hotspot owners who provide coverage and transfer data earn tokens as rewards. HNT holders take part in setting the network's rules by voting on improvement proposals (HIPs) within Helium DAO. Helium Mobile, a mobile phone plan service, is among the products that use this infrastructure.
The course of HNT may depend on actual data traffic on the network and hence the amount of tokens burned, changes to reward programs, growth or decline in the number of hotspots and telecom regulation. The Helium price on Lzzo.com comes from DefiLlama's US dollar reference data; the historical chart on the page is also built from DefiLlama's historical data for the same series.
