What is Gas?
GAS is the second asset in the Neo blockchain's dual-token model and is used to pay transaction and smart contract fees on the network. It does not belong to a separate project; it works as a native token built into the Neo protocol. Because the same symbol can also appear in other projects, it is worth noting that the asset referred to here is Neo's GAS.
On Neo, roles are split between two tokens. NEO is the governance token; its holders vote to elect the network's council members and consensus nodes and are rewarded with GAS in return. GAS, by contrast, is the network's fuel: it is spent to send transactions and to deploy and run smart contracts. Neo uses delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance (dBFT) consensus, which lets transactions reach finality in a single block. On Neo X, the EVM-compatible sidechain in the Neo ecosystem, GAS is also used as the native gas token.
The market behavior of GAS may depend on transaction activity on Neo and Neo X, the amount of new GAS distributed to accounts that hold NEO and vote, and developer interest in the Neo ecosystem. The price on the Lzzo.com Gas page is obtained by converting the value formed in the GAS/USDT pair on Binance into dollars at Coinbase Exchange's USDT/USD rate; the chart on the page shows the same series.
