Astar

Astar Network is a blockchain that runs as a parachain in the Polkadot ecosystem and supports smart contracts based on both the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and WebAssembly (Wasm). Known for its Japan-based developer ecosystem, Astar has recently also drawn attention for its close collaboration with Soneium, the Ethereum layer-two network of the Sony group. ASTR is the native token of the Astar network.

One of Astar's distinctive features is its dApp Staking model. In this model, token holders stake their ASTR directly on behalf of applications they favour; they earn rewards themselves, and the developers of those applications receive a share of the network's inflation rewards. ASTR is also used to pay transaction fees and in on-chain governance processes. Because the network benefits from Polkadot's shared security model, block finality is provided through Polkadot's main chain.
