Product information
What is Cotton #2 Futures (CT)?
Cotton is the core natural fiber of the textile sector and is used in the production of yarn, fabric and ready-made clothing. Oil and animal feed are obtained from cottonseed. China, India, the US and Brazil are among the prominent producing countries; Turkey, as both a producer and a consumer with a strong textile industry, also follows the cotton market closely.
The reference for the international cotton price is the Cotton No. 2 futures contract traded on the ICE Futures U.S. exchange, quoted in cents per pound. The cotton futures value on Lzzo.com is based on front-month contract (CT=F) data obtained via Yahoo Finance and is shown after conversion into US dollars.
Planted areas, weather and harvest yields, China's import demand, competition from synthetic fibers and global apparel demand are the main factors affecting the cotton price. The futures price relates to raw cotton of specific quality standards; local cotton prices formed on commodity exchanges in Turkey may differ.
