The company was formed in 2015 through the merger of Wisconsin Energy and Integrys Energy Group. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker WEC, and it is a member of the S&P 500 index.
The group serves customers in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota through several regulated subsidiaries. In Wisconsin, We Energies provides electricity and natural gas, while Wisconsin Public Service and Wisconsin Gas run similar services at a regional level. Natural gas reaches homes and businesses in Chicago through Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. The company also holds a stake in American Transmission Company, which operates an electric transmission grid. Its generation mix is being reshaped from coal toward natural gas, wind and solar power.
