Novartis AG

Novartis AG is a pharmaceutical company based in Basel, Switzerland. It was formed in 1996 through the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz. Its shares trade on the Swiss stock exchange SIX under the ticker NOVN, and depositary receipts also trade in the US on the NYSE under the ticker NVS.

In recent years Novartis has spun off its eye care company Alcon and its generics unit Sandoz as separate companies, moving to a structure focused on innovative medicines. The portfolio is concentrated in four main therapy areas: cardiovascular products such as Entresto for heart failure and Leqvio for lowering cholesterol; immunology drugs such as Cosentyx, used in psoriasis and similar conditions; oncology products such as Kisqali for breast cancer and the radioligand therapy Pluvicto; and neuroscience treatments such as the multiple sclerosis drug Kesimpta.

For Novartis stock, patent expiries and generic competition for key drugs, the growth rate of newer products, radioligand manufacturing capacity, drug candidates added through acquisitions and US pricing policies are watched.
